Ongoing Support

Ongoing support is vital to the successful implementation of an assistive technology system.

All too often, this phase of the process is ignored for any number of reasons.  When this happens, the potential for a negative outcome is very possible.  The disabled person may not excel as well as they should in school or college.  One could possibly lose their job because the ongoing support is not available.  This can possibly lead to problems that can result in unexpected downtime and require additional financial resources to resolve. 

Assistive technology is not like common hardware and software applications like Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.  Commonly used hardware and software applications work well right out of the box.  Assistive technology hardware and software must work well with many applications.  That can be a difficult task for the developer to accomplish.  Assistive technology manufacturers and developers sometimes don’t have the resources as manufacturers and developers of commercially available hardware and software.  They don’t have the research and development that the large companies do to test their products with all of the available products on the market.

As your assistive technology specialist, my goal is to ensure that you have a successful and positive experience.

You will receive ongoing support starting with the evaluation and ending when you are fully operational and comfortable with your system.  An assistive technology specialist must truly understand that serving people with disabilities and their assistive technology system is “support intensive.”  There are multiple plans and ways in which ongoing support is provided.  You will receive a customized and individualized solution to meet your needs.  I stand ready to assist you in any way that I can.
